POT CLINIC OWNER NOW MAYOR OF CALIFORNIA CITY: SEBASTOPOL AP) — A medical marijuana dispensary owner has been named mayor of a small Northern California city in the heart of pot country.

Sebastopol's City Council selected 36-year-old Robert Jacob as mayor earlier this week.

Jacob runs two pot clinics in Sonoma County, the San Francisco Chronicle reported (http://bit.ly/1iGZrXL). Americans for Safe Access, which advocates for safe and legal access to therapeutic cannabis, called Jacob's selection as mayor historic and unprecedented.

Jacob started Peace in Medicine, an organization that runs two medical marijuana dispensaries that have more registered patients than Sebastopol has residents.

Jacob has been on the City Council for two years, and most recently was vice mayor. He has worked to create statewide dispensary regulations.

Sebastopol, which has a population of about 7,500, in 2010 passed an ordinance that allowed two large marijuana gardens for dispensaries and another two "collective" gardens where patients could grow their own weed.

FAMILY SETTLES SUIT OVER SCHOOL GUN ACCIDENT: CHINO (AP) — The family of a California elementary school student who was injured when another child pulled the trigger of a rifle mounted on a police motorcycle has settled a lawsuit.

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reported Friday that the family accepted a $5,000 settlement from the city of Chino.

The rifle was locked to the side of the motorcycle on display at Newman Elementary School during an anti-drug assembly in October. Three children were hurt when the bullet struck a metal plate and disintegrated where the barrel rests against a weapons mount.

City spokeswoman Michelle Van Der Linden says the settlement was reached with the family of a student who had ringing in his ears because of the incident.

3 ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED RAPE OF 2 GIRLS IN RICHMOND: RICHMOND  (AP) — Three teenage boys have been arrested after allegedly getting two girls drunk and raping them at a Richmond park.

The Contra Costa Times reports (http://bit.ly/IOfzGy) the suspects, a 15-year-old and two 17-year-old boys, were arrested Wednesday and booked for investigation of rape and conspiracy.

Authorities say the attacks occurred Nov. 29 when the three boys and two girls, ages 14 and 17, were in a picnic area. The boys allegedly plied the girls with enough alcohol for them to pass out. The victims woke up the next day and told investigators they had been sexually assaulted.

Two men were given lengthy prison sentences in October for the 2009 gang rape of a 16-year-old girl outside a Richmond High School dance.

SMALL PLANE LANDS IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA PARK : FAIR OAKS  (AP) — Officials say the pilot of a small plane escaped with only minor injuries after he was forced to land at a Northern California park.

The single-engine Piper PA24 landed at a park in the Sacramento County city of Fair Oaks a little after 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

The park was mostly empty at the time, and no one else was hurt.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the plane was heading from Salinas to Auburn when it experienced engine trouble.

The pilot tried to get to a nearby airport but didn't make it.

The aircraft lost power and glided into a hard landing, hitting the top of some trees and clipping a parked car before coming to a rest. Some debris from the damaged plane was scattered in the park.

EX-DETECTIVE ARRESTED FOR GANG LEAKS: LONG BEACH  (AP) — Long Beach police say a former department detective has been arrested for passing information to a gang about a murder investigation.

Police said in a statement Friday that 42-year-old Yvonne Robinson was taken into custody at her home in Carson.

Police say Robinson, a 13-year veteran who last worked as a juvenile division detective, leaked information to the Baby Insane Crips, who counted Robinson's brother-in-law among their members.

Detectives investigating the 2009 killing of a 19-year-old man learned that suspects in the gang were getting information that appeared to come directly from the police department, and launched the investigation that led to Robinson. She was put on administrative leave last year and fired in March.
