Manteca Fire Department Debbie Williams administrative assistant Debbie Williams is retiring.

An open house is planned for Monday, Dec. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Fire Station No. 2 at 1154 South Union Road.

Manteca Fire Chief Kirk Waters noted that Williams has been:

ua god-send for him as fire chief and for the fire department.

uthe only administrative support since the downturn in the economy even though the department has over 100 members with full-time staff and volunteers and has done a Herculean job at keeping things going.

ua maternal figure for many firefighters over the years adding that “our firefighters absolutely love her as I do.  She always takes the time to listen to or help one of our firefighters no matter what she has going on.

“Although her job title is an administrative assistant and she is supposed to have a typical 9 to 5 job she has gone above and beyond the call of duty and has adjusted her schedule to always be available when we need her – at community events, big emergencies, and to meet department or community needs,” Waters noted.
