Orange schools banning e-cigarettes

ORANGE . (AP) — Electronic smoking devices will soon be among tobacco products prohibited by Orange Unified School District.

The Orange County Register reported Tuesday that the district board has tentatively approved a ban on e-cigarettes and similar devices. The policy is expected to be ratified next month.

Under the rules students found with e-cigarettes could face suspension and other punishments.

The district says it is following the directive from state and county education officials to ban the devices on campuses or during any school-sanctioned activity.

Over the past few months, the county's Department of Education has been working with districts to change their tobacco policies to include e-cigarettes and similar devices, including electronic vaporizers and e-hookahs.
