SACRAMENTO  (AP) — A pastor and her two grandsons were identified Monday as the three people found dead Saturday with traumatic injuries in a housing complex across from a fire station in Sacramento, California.
The deaths were being investigated as homicides. No arrests have been made.
“We still have not established a motive in the cases,” Sacramento police spokesman Matthew McPhail said. “Typically, crimes like this are a fairly passionate crime” instead of a random act.
The bodies were those of Christine Lucas, 68, and her grandsons Marquise Brown, 23, and James Robert Ferrell, 19, the coroner’s office said.
Lucas served as a pastor at Gloryland Revival Center International Ministries with her husband John Lucas, according to the affiliated Faith Ministries International Network’s website.
Officials at the church said they had no immediate comment.
A Faith Ministries biography says “Tina” Lucas and her husband helped feed Muslim children in the Philippines and Nigeria, and they were helping to build a church in the Virgin Islands.
Brown aspired to work with the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps, a nonprofit education and workforce training program for young adults.
He had been taking basic classes through the affiliated John Muir Charter School since September to earn his high school diploma, said David DeMers, the program’s executive director.
“He was a young man of hope and he was coming from a very difficult environment and background,” DeMers said.
