BRENTWOOD (AP) — Authorities say a woman floating on a Northern California river was seriously hurt when an Amtrak passenger train struck a pickup truck and knocked it into the water.
The pickup driver and the woman who was floating on a tube suffered major injuries in Thursday’s crash. Both were taken to a hospital by helicopter.
Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham says none of the train’s 145 passengers or crew members was hurt.
The crash happened near Brentwood, east of the San Francisco Bay Area along the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta.
Graham says the train was travelling between Bakersfield and Oakland.
California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Bartlett says it’s not immediately clear why the pickup was on the tracks. The crash remains under investigation.
