TEMECULA  (AP) — Dreams of a water park in Temecula city have again been tabled after developers failed to complete a purchase of land for the property.

The Press-Enterprise of Riverside reports that the Temecula City Council voted in January to sell 17.4 acres to a team with ties to the former Wild Rivers water park in Irvine for $2.854 million. However the deal required the team to close escrow by April 30, which they did not.

Developers say water use was an issue.

A spokeswoman for the Rancho California Water District says the district never received a formal request from the city to do a water supply assessment for the proposed park.

The Council has been trying to develop a water park in Temecula since 2009.
