SACRAMENTO (AP) — A state prison guard was among five people arrested following an eight-month investigation into marijuana cultivation activities in Sacramento.

The Sacramento Bee reports 32-year-old Eddie Lay, an employee of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, was taken into custody Wednesday along with four others.

Officials say the investigation began when police got a tip that an unknown law enforcement officer might be involved in criminal activity related to a known street gang.

Search warrants executed Wednesday turned up a total of 617 pot plants, approximately 248 pounds of packaged and processed marijuana, multiple firearms and more than $5,000 in cash.

The five face various charges including possession and cultivation of marijuana.
