Great Valley Writing Project at CSU Stanislaus will offer summer writing programs in Manteca, Ripon, and Tracy for students who are currently enrolled in grades K-12. Enrollment is open to the public.

The two-week workshops run weekday mornings from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at local schools. From June 8-19, a 1st-8th program will run at Great Valley Academy in Manteca, and a K-12 program will run at Ripon Elementary/Ripon High. From June 15-26, a K-8 camp will run at Hawkins Elementary in Tracy.

Because these writing camps also serve as training labs for teachers, students are guided by a very large staff of GVWP consultants, classroom teachers, and technology instructors. Each teacher mentors just three to five students.

Students at all grade levels use computers and/or digital tablets as they research, compose, and polish their projects. Parents can view photos, student projects, and comments from the 2014 participants by visiting the website created by last year’s students. – www.gvwp.weebly.com

The writing camps are subsidized by contributions from local businesses and private donations: no taxpayer dollars are used.

Fees range from $155 to $165 per student, depending on the date of enrollment – prices increase every two weeks. The current price is $155.
