SAN JOSE (AP) — Plastic foam food containers may soon be a thing of the past in San Jose.
The City Council voted 9-2 on Tuesday to ban them. The ban would go into effect for large, multistate chain restaurants in January and other restaurants and businesses a year later.
Other cities have banned foam containers, but the San Jose Mercury News reports that San Jose is among the largest of those.
Critics say the material can be recycled, and such bans unnecessarily burden businesses.
