South San Joaquin Irrigation District General Manager Jeff Shields is the speaker for the Manteca patriots gathering on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Angelano’s Restaurant.

Meeting organizers note the drought is forcing individuals and businesses to adjust habits when it comes to water use. They invite the public to drop by and hear what the SSJID is doing to protect the community’s water rights, and what you can expect moving forward when it comes to new regulations.

Shields has served as SSJID general manager for more than 11 years. During his tenure with SSJID, Shields has overseen several major water conservation projects, has been involved in efforts to balance farmer and urban water needs with conservation rulings, and guided the effort to allow SSJID to take over the PG&E system to lower retail power rates in Manteca, Ripon, and Escalon. Shields has nearly four decades of management experience in both the public and private spheres. He is also involved with Give Every Child a Chance and the Manteca Rotary Club. Shields is retiring later this year.

The meeting will be held in the banquet facilities at Angelano’s Restaurant, located at 1020 N. Main St. in Manteca. Those who attend the meeting are free to order dinner from the restaurant menu, but will be responsible for their own payment. The doors will open at 6:30, and the meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public.
