RIVERSIDE (AP) — A body found at the foot of a Southern California mountain is that of a missing woman, and her homeless son is suspected of killing her, authorities said Friday.
Mica Maddock, 51, was found dead Thursday morning in the Box Springs Mountains east of Los Angeles, Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback said.
Her husband reported her missing early Wednesday after she didn’t return calls and failed to show up to work.
Maddock’s car was found hours later driven by her son, Aaron Allen Aubrey, Railsback said.
Aubrey, 24, was initially arrested on suspicion of auto theft and a parole violation. He was later also booked on a murder charge and held without bail, Railsback said. It wasn’t known Friday if he has an attorney.
Police have not identified a motive for the killing. The cause of death is under investigation.
Railsback described Aubrey as a transient and said Maddock’s body was found by bloodhounds in a rural area he was known to frequent.
