PLACER COUNTY FIRE DESTROYS HOME, 3 OUTBUILDINGS: FORESTHILL (AP) — Firefighters are bracing for an another day of high temperatures and strong afternoon winds as they battle a wildfire burning in a rugged area of thick woods near the Placer County community of Colfax.
CalFire spokesman Brice Bennett says fire crews are working in what he describes as "extremely treacherous terrain" as the so-called Robbers Fire threatens about 170 homes.
Bennett says one home and three outbuildings have been destroyed in the fire. Since the blaze was first reported Wednesday, it has consumed about 3.5 square miles. It is 20 percent contained
BEAR WITH TWITTER FOLLOWING SPOTTED IN GLENDALE: GLENDALE (AP) — A bear that's inspired the creation of a Twitter account because of his frequent forays to Glendale has been tranquilized and returned to the wild after he was seen sleeping in a tree.
Glendale police blocked off streets and evacuated residents on Sunday before California Department Fish and Game wardens fired bean bag rounds at the bear to wake him up.
As the bear came down the trunk, they fired tranquilizer darts at him.
HOLLYWOOD CHASE ENDS WITH SUSPECT SHOOTING HERSELF: LOS ANGELES (AP) — A police chase of a woman suspected of firing gunshots during an argument in Hollywood has ended with the woman shooting herself.
Los Angeles Police Sgt. Sal Ogaz said the woman was taken to a hospital early Sunday in grave condition.
He said officers tried to pull her over after receiving reports that a black car had left the scene of the shooting. Ogaz said she refused to stop and led officers on a chase across Hollywood and over the Hollywood hills.
The pursuit ended abruptly when she pulled in a garage. Ogaz said that when officers approached the vehicle, they saw the woman had shot herself.
