GOP SENATE NOMINEE SAYS FEINSTEIN OUT OF TOUCH: BURBANK (AP) — The Republican Senate candidate in California is calling incumbent Democrat Dianne Feinstein out of date and out of touch.

GOP nominee Elizabeth Emken told party members in Burbank on Saturday that Congress needs new faces and new energy.

Emken never mentioned incumbent's age — Feinstein is 79 — but says "there is nothing modern about her."

Emken faces an uphill fight in a state that has grown increasingly favorable to Democrats, who hold every statewide office, both chambers of the Legislature and the two U.S. Senate seats.

Feinstein consultant Bill Carrick says Emken is not a credible candidate and does not have the experience for the job. Emken finished last in a congressional primary in her home district in 2010 and has never held elective office.

COMPANY PLANS SUBMERSIBLE TESTING AT LAKE TAHOE: SOUTH LAKE TAHOE  (AP) — A Bay Area company plans to test the maneuverability of a high tech submersible at Lake Tahoe.

Hawkes Ocean Technologies is set to perform hydrobatic testing of its DeepFlight Super Falcon at Lake Tahoe in October.

The company says the 22-foot, two-person submersible has a maximum speed of about 7 mph and is capable of maneuvers that would be impossible with other under water craft.

But exactly what maneuvers the submersible can accomplish is part of the reason the company is coming to Lake Tahoe for performance testing.
