• Malibu lifeguards need rescue after getting stuck: MALIBU  (AP) — Two lifeguards got stranded on a Malibu cliff face while they were trying to rescue a stuck climber and had to be rescued themselves.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Sunday that a woman clad only in a bathing suit got stuck about 50 feet above rocks on Pirates Cove, just east of Westward Beach, on Saturday around 4:15 p.m.

An ocean rescue boat spotted her and radioed for help. Two lifeguards climbed up to assist her, but also got stuck.

A Malibu Search and Rescue team member lowered himself over the cliff using a rope. He harnessed the lifeguards and lowered them safely to the sand.



• 7 hurt when limo plunges off parking lot: LOS ANGELES (AP) — A town car crashed into a parked car in Los Angeles, injuring all seven people inside when both vehicles plunged 20 feet off an elevated parking lot and onto an apartment courtyard.

Los Angeles fire spokesman Erik Scott says five people were hospitalized early Saturday, but none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Police Sgt. O.C. Smith says the town car driver thought he had shifted into reverse when he accelerated. Smith says the limo slammed into the car, knocking it off the elevated parking lot in the Hollywood Hills.

Both vehicles fell onto the courtyard of an adjacent apartment building. The building was not damaged.



• 2 small quakes shake Southern California: LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two small earthquakes rattled Southern California but there no reports of damage or injury.

The US Geological Survey says a 3.9 magnitude quake struck at 8:24 a.m. Sunday and was centered about 5 miles east-southeast of Santa Clarita.

Shaking was felt across the Santa Clarita Valley, 25 miles to the south in downtown Los Angeles, in West Hollywood and along LA County beaches.

Earlier Sunday a 3.9 magnitude quake was reported in Riverside County. The USGS says it struck at 12:47 a.m. about six miles southeast of Valle Vista.



• Toddler hit by barb from police Taser in San Diego: SAN DIEGO (AP) — A 3-year-old girl was hit with the barb from a Taser aimed at a parolee by a police officer in San Diego.

Neither one received a shock, and the toddler was treated at the scene by paramedics, who removed the barb.

Police Lt. Andra Brown says the girl got a Band-Aid for her wound.

The parolee was being chased by officers in the Nestor area. He ran into a Home Depot parking lot then turned to confront officers.

One officer fired his Taser at the man. Brown says one barb hit the parolee and the second barb struck the toddler, who was just a few feet away with her parents.
