Authorities say a fourth man arranged a meeting on Sunday but ran off when the gunman approached and contacted authorities.

MERCED MAN ARRESTED AT AIRPORT WITH CONN. GIRL, 14: SACRAMENTO  (AP) — A California man is being held in the Sacramento County Jail after he allegedly met a 14-year-old Connecticut girl online and flew her back to the Golden State without her parents' knowledge.

Nathan Salas of Merced was arrested Tuesday at the Sacramento International Airport. Investigators say the 27-year-old had cultivated a relationship with the girl over several months.

On Monday, the girl's parents reported her missing to the police department in Hamden, Conn. She had left a suicide note before disappearing from her home.

Police analyzed her phone and found a cell number for Salas. The Merced County Sheriff's Department notified airport officials when investigators discovered airline tickets in their names.

Salas was booked for concealing a child without parents' consent and is being held on $100,000 bail.
