SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — San Bernardino County health officials say a person has died after being infected with the West Nile virus.

The death was reported Friday. The person's name, age and gender were not immediately made public.

The death was the seventh this year in California due to West Nile virus. The other fatalities occurred in Los Angeles, Glenn, Sacramento and San Joaquin counties.

The virus is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito that has fed on an infected bird. One person died in San Bernardino County last year from the infection.
