WILLITS  (AP) — A Northern California woman has been arrested after her baby son died when she left him alone for 10 hours in a hot car.

Authorities say outside temperatures reached the 80s before the 18-month-old boy was found in the car Wednesday afternoon in Willits. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Alexandrea Raven Scott of Trinidad went to visit friends at about 3 a.m. Wednesday and left her son in the back seat of the car with the windows rolled up.

She brought him to the hospital that afternoon. Scott was arrested on suspicion of willfully causing or permitting a child to suffer great bodily injury or death.
