The attempted abduction of a Stockton teen walking to school Wednesday morning has put Manteca and Ripon police departments and area schools on the alert today.

Interim Manteca Police Chief John Orcutt said his school resource officers have been advised of the white man in his late 20s who allegedly grabbed a 13-year-old girl in a bear hug asking for a kiss before attempting to drag her into his van. Stockton Police said she was able to break away from the man who claimed to have a knife and a gun in his pockets.

Ripon First Sergeant Steve Merchant said his department has asked all the schools in that community to be alert to any suspicious activity around children especially to and from the schools
.
Chief Orcutt said the school resource officers are passing the alert on to the schools that in turn were expected to advise parents within the school district.

Residents are asked to take note of license numbers if they see something questionable and to even take a cell phone photo of the incident and call 911 immediately.
