Two “study buddies” that have kept pace with each other all year have earned the honors of being East Union High School’s valedictorian and salutatorian for their upcoming graduation ceremonies.

Valedictorian Marina Flores was credited with a 4.83 GPA while her friend Salutatorian Alexandria Scott followed closely with a 4.6 GPA.

“I don’t know what we are going to do with our time after school is out,” Marina quipped.

They have both attended East Union for four years, but just this year became competitive with each other in their grades.

Both credited their moms with their successes in school.

For their personal vote for “best teacher,” John Prieto got the nod from the girls.  He teaches AP U.S. History, History and AP Psychology.

Flores is planning to attend Fresno State University and major in Bio-Chemistry and Bio-Medical research and then apply to a veterinarian school.  Scott is registered at U.C. Davis in Sacramento.  The two grad speakers last week were presented with the 2015 Record All County Student Pinnacle Team Awards in ceremonies at UOP in Stockton.

Both girls have followed Scott’s brother on his dirt bike circuit all over California.  Scott has logged some 300 hours in volunteer service at the Barnwood Stables in Ripon where she worked every Saturday caring for the horses.

Flores has completed 11 advanced placement classes plus numerous honors. Scott finished 10 AP honors classes also with additional honors classes.

Scott was also involved in swimming, horseback riding and served as the president of the Advanced Placement Club as well as being club secretary as well as vice president and secretary of the Aquatic Club.
