Last year, the Manteca Unified transportation department initiated “Stuff the Bus For Kid’s Sake” for the holidays.

Stuffing the school bus consisted of food and other non-perishable items that benefited Second Harvest Food Bank of San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties. The toys and other gifts filled the need for youngsters in the Ray of Hope Christmas event.

At last Tuesday’s school board meeting, bus driver Davine Williams announced the second-ever “Stuff the Bus” event for the upcoming holidays.

She and other MUSD drivers will be collecting food, coats and toys at Golden West School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.

They’ll collect the same items at Lathrop Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that following Saturday, Dec. 12.

The food collected will be hauled to Second Harvest Food Bank, the toys will be delivered to  Ray of Hope, and the coats will keep local youngsters in need warm.

In addition, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will make special visits during both “Stuff the Bus” efforts, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
