At the time of her passing, Dara Torrano was president of the local women’s bowling association.

In 2004, she died of kidney failure following a transplant. But Torrano’s memory lives on.

“At that time, she was so involved in bowling,” Lou Tidwell said.

The president of the Manteca USBC Bowling Association noted Tuesday that the annual moonlight no-tap bowling event held at the Manteca Family Fun Center was changed to honor Torrano’s memory.

The fifth annual Dara Torrano Bowling Tournament is scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.

“You can work out after that big turkey dinner and work it off,” said Tidwell. “What’s more it’s for a good cause.”

All proceeds from the moonlight no-tap bowling tourney go directly to the National Kidney Foundation. Last year’s event raised about $2,500 to the cause, according to Tidwell.

A drawing will also be held, with prizes including a Storm Hy-Road bowling ball – drilling included – and savings bonds of $100 and $50.

Those purchasing tickets in advance need not be present to win. But those buying into the drawing on the day of the event must be present to claim their prize.

Cost is $20 for three games.

The Manteca Family Fun Center is located at 1251 E. Yosemite Ave.
