Second Harvest Food Bank received a generous donation.

Thanks in part to the proceeds from last Saturday’s “Rods, Roadsters and Cruising Cars” show hosted by Wheels of Woodbridge, the local food bank will now be able to fund programs and services to service 300,000 people in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and the Mother Lode counties.

So says Second Harvest Chief Executive Officer Mike Mallory, who attended the fifth annual event at Woodbridge Del Webb – this an active adult community in Manteca – to present the car club with a plaque.

Members of Wheels of Woodbridge were recognized for its continued support and “selfless donations of time, talent and treasure.”

Ditto that for the Men of Woodbridge (hot dog sale) and Women of Woodbridge (baked goods). Both groups were also supporters.

“Our goal was to raise $7,000 (for Second Harvest). We more than exceeded those numbers,” said Jessica Vaughan in Community Development.

All told, Woodbridge tallied about $10,500 from the three events from the past few months – the car show, the golf cart races, and the Mexican fiesta dinner.

The latter was held last month at Taqueria La Estella, with the owner Sergio Jimenez, an avid supporter of Second Harvest, donating proceeds from the entire event.

The golf cart races consisted of Woodbridge members along with family and friends competing against one another. Included were all-out races and slalom course.

The car show featured 115 cars from throughout Northern California. The Manteca car club, Nuts and Bolts, also helped out.

“This ($10,000) is a huge amount of money to fundraise and will go a long way in feeding the ‘food insecure’ in the valley communities,” Mallory said.
