Turkeys R Us short 267 turkeys at Thanksgiving

Two service clubs donated $1,100 to push Turkeys R Us closer to the goal of making sure 1,300 struggling families in Manteca, Ripon, and Lathrop have turkeys this Thanksgiving.

The Manteca Soroptimists donated $400 and the Manteca Rotary $700 to bring cash donations to $9,895 with just five days to go until turkeys have to be ordered for distribution to food closets in the three communities in time for Thanksgiving.

Between cash donations and 100 frozen turkeys that have been dropped off for Turkeys R Us, the effort so far has enough to supply turkeys to 933 families. Donations are still needed to cover the main course for 267 families plus take care of all 1,300 families again at Christmas.

A number of people take the free turkeys they get for buying a set amount of food at supermarkets during the holidays and donate that to the effort.

Donations (make checks out to Turkeys R Us) can be dropped off at Coldwell Banker Crossroads offices at 319 Main Street near North Street in Manteca or 15810 S. Harlan Road in Lathrop or the Second Harvest Food Bank, 704 E. Industrial Park Drive in Manteca.

If you want to donate a frozen turkey or ham, take it directly to the food bank
