Two fighting female pit bulls attacked a woman in her early 30s as she was attempting to separate them in her home shortly before noon Tuesday while her 74-year-old father suffered a fatal heart attack apparently after witnessing the trauma.
The incident occurred in the Magna Terra subdivision in the 300 block of Grissom Way east of Cottage Avenue and several blocks north of East North Street. First responders said the injured woman walked to the hospital emergency room of the nearby Doctors Hospital following the attack.
Firefighters and ambulance medics tirelessly worked on the man who they found on the front living area of the home for over 30 minutes before transporting him to the hospital several blocks away.
The two dogs, 3 and 9-years-old, are being quarantined at the Manteca animal shelter for 10 days.
The street was cordoned off with ambulance and fire department vehicles while medics attempted to stabilize the victim.  One pit bull was owned by the family and the other they had been keeping for a friend who was away.
Police could not confirm any connection between the dogs attacking the grandfather and his suffering of a heart attack. Police response was rapid because the dispatcher reportedly had information that the incident was dogs attacking a child.
