LODI — You support our troops at Delta College’s 2nd Annual Veterans Muddy Maul & Crawl on Saturday, Oct. 8, starting at 8:30 a.m., at Jessie’s Grove Winery, 1973 W. Turner Road in Lodi.

The Veterans Muddy Maul & Crawl benefits San Joaquin Delta College’s Boots to Books scholarship program. Boots to Books scholarships are awarded to Delta College veterans to assist with their educational expenses.

The Muddy Maul & Crawl features a demanding two-mile scenic vineyard obstacle course. Nine different boot camp-style obstacles are featured per mile, followed by a big mud pit final obstacle. Along with individual races, a five person Team Division will be available. The competition will be followed by a barbecue and awards ceremony.

Adults may register for this year’s Muddy Maul & Crawl for $50. Teams may register for $250. Kids eight and under may register for the “Mud Crawl” only on race day for $15. Register for the Veterans Muddy Maul & Crawl at: www.OnYourMarkEvents.com.

“Delta College’s ‘Troops to College’ and ‘Boots to Books’ programs provide active and former members of the armed services a support team that increases their likelihood of success in an academic environment,” says Catherine Mooney, Delta’s Director of Admissions and Records/Troops to College coordinator. “These programs provide information, resources and support services to ‘advantage’ active and former members of the armed services.” Mooney emphasizes, “These services continue from admission through graduation or transfer.”

The California Troops to College initiative was created in 2006 to attract more veterans to California’s public colleges by making them more “veteran-friendly.” The program helps ensure that veterans are advised of their educational opportunities within California’s State Universities, University of California system, and California Community Colleges.
