Kirk Waters is Manteca’s interim fire chief.

Waters, 46, has been with the fire department for 21 years and has served within all ranks.

He is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program from the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, Maryland and holds a master’s degree in business administration.

Waters was named interim fire chief by City Manager Steve Pinkerton following Chris Haas’ announced  retirement  earlier this week. Haas, who was appointed interim fire chief in December of 2007 and sworn in as fire chief on Aug. 21, 2008, is retiring on Jan. 31.

“I cannot begin to express my gratitude and joy for having the opportunity to serve the citizens of Manteca for more than 31 years,” Haas said. “I will sincerely miss the dedicated men and women of the City of Manteca. I want to personally thank those individuals within our community that inspired me over the years to give my very best. I’m certain the future of Manteca will be bright given the leadership team in place today.”
