Seven candidates vying for a vacant seat on the Ripon City Council will have their say on Monday.

They’re scheduled to be interviewed during a special session Monday in the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

Those seeking the post once held by Elden ‘Red’ Nutt, who passed away suddenly on Nov. 21, are John Mangelos, Don Moyer, Garry Krebbs, Manuel Lopez, John Reynolds, Gary Barton and Mark Winchell.

The special session begins at 5 p.m. but the first to be interviewed is Mangelos at 5:15.

He’ll be followed by Moyer at 5:45, Krebbs at 6:15 and Lopez at 6:45.

The interviews by conducted by a panel consisting of Mayor Leo Zuber, Vice Mayor Jake Parks, Councilman Dean Uecker, Councilman Michael Restuccia, and City Attorney Tom Terpstra. They’ll take a 10 minute breaks after the first four interviews.

Sessions are scheduled to resume at 7:25 with Reynolds.

He’ll be followed by Barton at 7:55 and Winchell at 8:25.

Council, after the process, agreed to submit the ballots to City Clerk Lisa Roos in order to remain anonymous.

In the event of a candidate getting three votes, Roos can announce that candidate’s name for consideration.

If there’s not a majority vote, Council can then rank the candidates and submit that list to the city clerk to be tabulated.

The rankings could then be used as a starting point for the panel to discuss and choose the candidates for consideration.

The one selected will be appointed at the Jan. 20 meeting.
