Agnes “Nettie” Clark, 90, joined her sweetheart and eternal companion Clark on Sunday morning. Their children Frank, Larry and Penny (Jones) rejoice that they are together again in their eternal journey.
Agnes Lehner was born in Salt Lake City, May 15th, 1920 the youngest child of Swiss immigrant parents who joined the LDS Church and came to America and “Zion”. The family moved to San Francisco when she was about 2 years old.
When she was about 3 she decided she should be called “Nettie”. She has many happy memories of growing up in “The City” with her 4 sisters and one brother and playing “run sheep run” in “Glen Park” or making up plays and dressing up with her sisters and close friends. She loved Sundays and going to church on the street car with “Pa Pa & Ma Ma.”
She was very popular and known for her lovely singing voice at Balboa High School where she met Frank Clark “Clarkie” in German Class. He kissed her for the first time “at the flagpole” the night of their graduation in 1937. They eloped Dec. 1, 1940. Their children Frank, Larry and Penny were born in 1941, ‘43, and ‘45. Nettie was always the “room or den mother”, Girl Scout leader, etc. and famous for the beautiful decorated cakes she made for years (she made Sarah & Dick Hammarstrom’s wedding cake among many others).
She also loved to direct, write and produce plays and “roadshows”. For years she collected costumes and vintage clothing eventually running a costume rental business in their “barn” in Santa Rosa (where they lived for 30 years) called “Make Believe Manor” along with a “Bed & Breakfast” called “Treehaven Manor”.
She lived in Manteca the last six years and enjoyed being in the Manteca Fourth of July parade several times with her husband in his patriotic red, white and blue van, watching the “Cooking Lady” (Rachel Ray) and baseball: She was a San Francisco Giants “fan” for over 50 years! She also loved KBYU-TV, watching General Conference, “Music & the Spoken Word”(Mormon Tabernacle Choir) and anything having to do with “the Gospel”. Her answer to all challenges was “let’s pray”.
Her many friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m.(visitation: 10 a.m.) in Santa Rosa at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Rincon Valley Chapel 5301 Badger Road. Burial following at Santa Rosa Memorial Park 1900 Franklin Ave.
Remembrances in her name to: Santa Rosa Junior College “SRT” (Summer Repertory Theatre)or Hospice of San Joaquin. Arrangements by Park View Cemetery and Funeral Home, 3661 E. French Camp Rd. Manteca.
