When Spreckles Sugar was preparing to permanently close, Alden was asked to come back to help since he was one of very few who knew all of the equipment.  He was happy to do so.
Alden was a member of the Manteca Moose Lodge and the VFW Ripon where he was their official maintenance man for several years. It was also like his second home where he went every day.  Many friends there are very special to him, and him to them. You could say he was a fixture at the VFW.  Alden also enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and socializing with friends. His witty reserved sense of humor drew many friends as he never knew a stranger.
