Alden Janke bw

Alden Wilbur Janke, 80, entered into rest on December 11, 2015 in Manteca, CA. He was born on January 27, 1935 in Napoleon, North Dakota. He  is preceded in death by two sisters Ruth McCurdy and Edna Pimentel and also Alden Jr’s half siblings Pamela, Mark and Alan Dale.    Mr. Janke is survived by his only child Alden Janke Jr. as well as his siblings Annette Grad, Leah Huse, Ruby Scoviak, Velda Lee, Harold Janke and Ginny Kotz, and also two half siblings of  Alden Jr, Douglas and David, and many extended family members whom he loved dearly.
Alden join the military at a young age serving in the Korean War through the United States Army. While serving his country Alden became a prisoner of war; however after over 16 months Alden was finally released by the Koreans; finally, being honorably discharged from the United States Army; receiving a good conduct medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After the military he moved to Lathrop to be closer to family as he started his life-long career at Spreckles Sugar Factory. He retired after 35 years of service working various supervisory positions. When Spreckles Sugar was preparing to permanently close, Alden was asked to come back to help since he was one of very few who knew all of the equipment.  He was happy to do so.
Alden was a member of the Manteca Moose Lodge and the VFW Ripon where he was their official maintenance man for several years. It was also like his second home where he went every day.  Many friends there are very special to him, and him to them. You could say he was a fixture at the VFW.  Alden also enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and socializing with friends. His witty reserved sense of humor drew many friends as he never knew a stranger. Alden will be remembered for his kind heart and his giving spirit. He will be deeply missed.
