Mr. Arthur Weststeyn, age 94, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2012, with family members by his side. He was born on August 7, 1918, in Doon, Iowa. He lived in Ripon, California for 76 years and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He established Weststeyn Farms, growing peaches, almonds and grapes, and enjoyed fishing, bowling, card playing and spending time with his family.
Art was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn Weststeyn, to whom he was married for 71 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Johanna Weststeyn, his brother John Weststeyn and his sister Ann Boersma. Art is survived by his sisters Pearl Hoff and Wilhemina Levering. He is also survived by his children Dolores Carlson and her husband, Gary of Ripon, California, Robert Weststeyn and his wife JoAnn of Melrose, Montana, and Carol Madsen and her husband Robert of Ripon, California. Art is survived by 8 grandchildren: Sheri Heinrich (Randy), Michael Carlson (Patti), Tami Kuhlman (Scott), Stacey Meneses (Danny), Josh Weststeyn (Olivia), Jennifer De Jong (Chad), Christopher Madsen (Christina), Lynnelle Madsen, 13 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Art was an active member of Calvary Reformed Church having been a deacon, elder and Sunday School Teacher. He also held membership in Blue Diamond Almond Growers, Allied Grape Growers, CALAMCO, Ripon Unified School Board, and Ripon Chamber of Commerce. He was inducted into the 1994 San Joaquin County Agricultural Hall of Fame.
A viewing will be held on Monday, September 17, 2012 from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Deegan Memorial Chapel in Ripon. A celebration of the life and faith of Arthur Weststeyn will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Calvary Reformed Church at Second Street and Vera Avenue at 10:00 A.M. with his Final Resting Place at the Ripon Cemetery.
