Bernard Nicholas O’Neill, died on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Lincoln Square Post-acute Care in Stockton. He was born on July 10, 1931 in Oakland, California to the late Bernard and Bernadette O’Neill of Oakland.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Barbara C. O’Neill in 2011.
He is survived by his daughter Karen M. O’Neill and her husband S. Alexander Ridgway of New Jersey, son Paul B. O’Neill and his wife, Michelle, of Tracy, and son Thomas G. O’Neill and his wife, Alice Householder of Mountain View. Bernard was proud of his four grandchildren; Evan Ridgway, Kristen O’Neill, Ciara O’Neill and Fiona O’Neill. He was the brother of Philip O’Neill (deceased) and of Rita Hill, David O’Neill, and Mary Burrell.
Bernard grew up in Oakland where he was raised Catholic and valued family very highly. He attended St. Mary’s School, St. Joseph’s High School, and the University of San Francisco. He served in the Army at the end of the Korean War and went on to a career as an accountant and internal auditor for Montgomery Ward and the San Joaquin County government. This work took him with his family to California, Illinois, and Oregon. He loved following the stock market and advising friends about making careful investments. Bernard made and kept many friendships and will be missed.
Services will be held Monday, December 11, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 525 E. North St., Manteca, CA. He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at The Tracy Mausoleum.
