Bernice M. Detmers, 81, entered into rest on November 16, 2016 in Manteca, CA. She was born on February 2, 1935 to the late Anthony and Rosalie Souza.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years Richard Detmers Sr. Bernice is survived by her loving family; children; Richard Detmers Jr., James and wife Nancy Detmers and Deanne Detmers-Raskin.
She was blessed with seven grandchildren; Michael, Steven, Nicole, Matthew, Sean, Ava and Hanna as well as, many God children who she loved dearly. In addition, Bernice is survived by two siblings; Marie Freitas and Clifford Souza.
Bernice was a life long Manteca resident graduating from Manteca High School in 1953. She made her career with both the Tracy Defense Depot as a lab clerk and at UOP in the registers office. She was well-respected by the Portuguese community and was a proud member of the MRPS Hall where she was past queen. She enjoyed cooking, especially when it came to traditional Portuguese dishes and any type of vegetables she and her husband grew in their garden. No one ever went home hungry. She was an avid all sports fan but especially loved her 49ers. She was a true 49er faithful. She had a talent at knitting and quilting; passing down beautiful blankets to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed trips to local casinos and driving along the ocean coast. Bernice was always encouraging to her children and grandchildren, constantly inspiring them to chase after their dreams. Her family was always the most important in her life; she always made time to laugh, communicate and most importantly, love unconditionally. Bernice will be remembered for her loving heart, her generous spirit and her devotion to family. She will be deeply missed.
P.L. Fry & Son is honored to be serving the Detmers family. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. held at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Rd., Manteca. A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at
10:00 a.m. also held at
P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, 17871 S. Carrolton Rd., Escalon, CA.
