David B. Vest, 90, died Wednesday, September 7 at Memorial Hospital in Modesto. He was born on March, 26, 1921 in Manteca. He was an electrician at Spreckles Sugar for 25 years.
Mr. Vest is survived by his wife of 57 years, Monette Vest; son, Brian Vest of Manteca, daughter, Donna Dunbar of Kingston, Washington, and daughter Carol Thompson of Auburn; grandchildren, Jesse Dunbar of Ohio, Jerry Dunbar of Kingston, Washington, Jolene Dunbar of Hawaii, Jamie Dunbar of Kingston, Washington, and Gloria Vest of Manteca.
David served 4 years in the military and is a veteran of WWII during which time he was stationed in England.
David was a volunteer with the Manteca Rural Fire Department for 38 years and raised to rank of Assistant Chief. David also was a founder of the
Manteca Ambulance Service, and volunteer EMT Driver for 30 years.
David was initiated into the Masonic Order in 1946 and was a member and Past Master of Tyrian Lodge in Manteca. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in Stockton, Ben Ali Shrine in Sacramento and a past Commander of Ben Ali Shrine Legion of Honor.
David also served as a volunteer driver of children and families to the Shrine Children’s Hospital in both San Francisco and Sacramento. He also served on the advisory boards of both the DeMolay and Rainbow Girls as well as being Rainbow Dad for many years.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 910 E. North St. Manteca.
