David "Pop" O'Brien passed away peacefully on April 5, 2012 in the comfort of his home surrounded by family.

David was born in East Los Angeles and joined the Redemptorist Seminary at age 14 in Oakland and eventually gained a Doctorate in Divinity. After his dispensation from the priesthood, David decided he wanted to teach and attended Cal State Los Angeles where he received his Bachelor's degree and teaching credentials. He met and married his wife Brigid, and then began a long career teaching in the Manteca Unified School District where he taught second through fifth grades as well as special education. Along with his friend Milton Handley, he spent many years coaching baseball at Sundown Little League.

David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brigid, and children Sheila Motsinger and husband Robert, James O'Brien, Siobain O'Brien-Beauchamp, Matthew O'Brien and his wife Alycia and Patrick O'Brien; two grandchildren Sean and Megan Beauchamp, sisters-in-law Nancy O'Brien, Sharon O'Brien and Mary O'Brien; nephews Tom O'Brien, Darren O'Brien and Joe, Zach, Isaac, Patrick and Noah, nieces Robin, Susie, Theresa, Brenda, Katie, Molly, Amber and Gina and friend Terrie Browne of Madera along with a host of relatives in Ireland.

David was preceded in death by two of his children George Patrick O'Brien and Mary Ellen O'Brien his parents Thomas and Geraldine O'Brien and brothers Jim, Dan and Pat O'Brien.

Visitation will be held in the chapel of Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary, 809 N. California St., Stockton from 3-8 PM on Monday with Recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the Mission of the Good Shepherd in French Camp followed by committal at Parkview cemetery in Manteca. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of San Joaquin.
