Delfino “Del” Sarina was born December 22, 1924, to Mary and Peter Sarina, in Galt. He passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, in Sonora, CA. He moved with his family to Manteca in 1930. He attended Castle Elementary School and graduated from Manteca High School in 1943. He enlisted in the Army/Air Force in 1943 and was a nose gunner on a B24 Bomber. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He flew the daylight bombing raid over Berlin on March 19, 1945 and flew a total of 17 bombing missions over Germany. He was discharged in 1946 and returned home to Manteca. He then attended college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he graduated in 1950 with a degree as an electrical engineer. He met his wife to be, Leona, while attending college and they were married in 1949. They lived in San Luis Obispo, Murphys, and Sonora. He was employed by Pacific Gas & Electric for 35 and a half years before retiring. They were active members of the Christian Heights Assembly of God Church in Sonora.
   Del was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Leona, in 2008, and his sister, Josephine Bonini of So. San Francisco in 1978. He is survived by his children, Billie Jean Owens, son Daryl Sarina (Jan), daughter Cheryl Cicero (Bob), all of Sonora, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and  nephews. He is also survived by his brothers, William Sarina of Manteca, Mario Sarina (Vivian) of Manteca, and sister Frances Lober of Monterey.
   A visitation will be held at Heuton’s Funeral Home, 400 S. Stewart St., Sonora, on Friday, April 4, 2014,
9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, April 6, 2014, at 2 p.m., at Christian Heights Assembly of God, 13711 Joshua Way, Sonora, CA. Donations in Del’s name made be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity.
