Donald Gigli K

Donald Joseph Gigli of Pleasanton passed away on Saturday, January 20, in his ranch home in Lathrop, CA, at the age of 87.
He was born in San Leandro to Ruby and Joseph Gigli, and was a resident of Pleasanton for nearly 50 years. Don was the youngest of three brothers and one sister, all of which preceded him in death. Athletically inclined, Don played football and baseball in high school, and continued baseball through college, for the Army team in Japan as he served our country, and eventually made the AAA league.
After baseball, he worked and became a partner of Oakland Scavenger Garbage Company. It was at that time he met the love of his life, Dianne. While working at Oakland Scavenger, he and Dianne opened a feed store in the town of Sunol. It was there that he learned of his passion for agriculture, and after retiring from the garbage business he sold the feed store and opened Gigli Hay Inc., in Lathrop.
Although mostly known as a hard and focused worker, Don also enjoyed spending time in Palm Springs, where he loved to dance and dine at various restaurants. He also enjoyed golfing, biking, hiking, and spent endless hours at the gym.
Though preceded in death by his wife Dianne, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Denise and Dennis Cink, son and daughter-in-law Joseph and Dana Gigli, grandchildren Aaron, Noah, Matthew, Steven, and Alyssa, and six great-grandchildren.
A mass will be held at 11am Friday, February 2, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church at 3999 Bernal Ave., Pleasanton, CA. A brief reception will follow mass. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Don’s name to St. Judes Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org or by calling 1 (800) 608-7836, or by mail at 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN, 38105
