Donna  Marie Mathews, 97, peacefully passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on November 17, 2019 in Placerville, CA. Donna was born in Modesto, CA to Martin and Lucy Andersen on March 27, 1922.
   Donna’s father was born in Denmark and came to the U.S. as a young man where he married Lucy Ball in 1920. Donna was raised in the First Baptist Church in Modesto, California. Donna confessed her Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal saviour at age 12 and was baptised. She attended Ransom School, Modesto High and Modesto Junior College. Donna married Harold Clayton Mathews at the Church of the Wayfarer in Carmel-By-The-Sea on May 27, 1952. Harold built their first home in Ripon, California. In 1955, Donna and Harold became members of the Heartland Community (Covenant) Church in Ripon where they were both faithful and active. Donna retired from Pacific Bell in Modesto after 3 years of service. In 1978, Donna worked several years doing volunteer work with Hospice helping others with their end of life and sharing God’s love. Donna loved being with family and friends and entertaining at their Ripon home. People loved her quick wit and fun sense of humor. She was a happy hostess and loved to serve great food and desserts. Donna loved flowers and there would always be a bouquet or two at home. She enjoyed making floral arrangements for church events, friends or taking to Bethany Home just to brighten someone’s day!          Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her younger sister June Johnson and husband Harold.
   She is survived by her children, Luann, Kristine Hawkins and son-in-law Timothy Hawkins of Placerville, Randall Martin Mathews of Modesto, first grandchild Janelle Kristine Horne (husband Dale) of Shingle Springs, CA, and four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Joceyln, Julianne and Melanie and second grandchild Anna Claire Mathews of Modesto, CA.
   In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. A private immediate family memorial was held on December 26.  Cremation was her choice and her ashes will be placed and laid to rest with her beloved late husband at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA. Remembrances may be sent to Foundation Aiding the Elderly, 3430 American River Drive, Ste.105, Sacramento, CA 95865.
