Dorothy (Dot) Russell Dougherty went to be with our Lord Jesus on September 23, 2023, in Ripon, California. She was born on December 3, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Albert and Doris (Davison) Russell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Richard and John, her loving husband Roy, sons Brett and Doug, and great- granddaughter Lillian Jessee.
Dorothy grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, where she loved being a majorette at North High School. She loved telling her sons and grandchildren about her days
at North High, and how she met her high school sweetheart, Roy. Roy and Dorothy wed in 1952 and had three boys in the years that followed. Dorothy stayed at home raising her family but did go to work part-time at the local grocery store to help save money for the family’s move to California in 1964. They settled in the Bay Area until Roy’s retirement, at which point they moved to Ripon, California. They lived in Ripon for 15 years before moving to Nevada. After Roy’s death, Dorothy moved back to California to be closer to her family.
Dorothy was a loving mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother with a big heart that loved Jesus. She loved to talk and pray with everyone she met. She was very involved in church activities. She loved being a greeter, and singing in the choir. Dorothy enjoyed visiting, caring for, and
ministering to disabled people in their homes. She served several years in an administrative capacity at the Manteca Pregnancy Help Center. She also enjoyed sewing, and made beautiful costumes for her family’s school musicals, church musicals and plays. She
supported her Sons, grandchildren, and great-grand children in various sports, dance recitals, musicals and plays.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Scott (Ruth) Dougherty of Manteca, daughter-in-laws, Lourdes Dougherty and Billie Dougherty, both of Ripon. Grandchildren: Ryan Dougherty, Joshua (Meaghan) Tacey, Jason (Jill) Dougherty, Ian Dougherty, Kristina Dougherty, Breeann (Josh- ua) Bowers, Bridget (Andrew) Jessee, and Heath (Maryshell) Dougherty. Great-grand children; Dorian, Brooklyn, Madison, Devaney, Malaki, Ace, Tripp, Kiele, Theodore, and Reu.
