Eugene ‘Gene’ Marx

September 7, 1934 to May 12, 2013



Eugene “Gene” Marx, 78, went to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ on May 12, 2013. He was born September 7, 1934 in Nebraska. He was a resident of Ripon and Manteca for over 36 years. He joins his former wife of 25years Joann Marx and his sisters Maxine, Monica and Elizabeth Ann.

Mr. Marx is survived by his wife of 3 years Becky Marx. His children are Ann Hartman (Gene), Mary Colemanlewrie (Robert), Eugene Marx Jr., and James Marx (Debbi). He welcomed his many step-children into his life with a loving heart; Greg (Marie) Burge, Lavonne (Chris) Dempsey, Kevin (Suni) Burge, Mark Harrison (Shirley), Candice Birmingham (Jack), and Lynn Harrison. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren; Robert, Darren, Lisa, Dianna, Kristen, Jessica, Michael, Josh, Sara, Donna, Lynne and an additional 8 step-grandchildren. He adored his 19 great-grandchildren. In addition Gene has two surviving brothers; Robert and Harvey Marx.

Gene retired from the Army after 25 years of serving his country. After retirement he worked in Management for Grand Auto Stores for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where he was involved with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed volunteering his time with St. Vincent de Paul where he would deliver food to the under privileged and homeless. He loved playing Santa Claus in the Manteca Christmas parades every year and St. Nicklaus at St. Anthony’s during the holiday’s. He was an avid stone and rock collector. He enjoyed traveling across the United States seeing many historical sites, visiting friends along the way. Gene was social as he loved to flirt with the ladies, his laugh was infectious and his smile was priceless. Gene will be remembered as a gentle kind-hearted man who was always giving of himself.

P.L. Fry & Son is honored to be serving the Marx family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 1 to 5 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. Mass will be on Thursday May 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church 525 E. North St. Manteca, Ca. He will be laid to rest at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery 17871 S. Carrolton Rd. Escalon, Ca. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to St. Vincent de Paul or any Charity of Choice.
