Gary Lee Van Atta, 63, entered into rest on Saturday, March 6.  He was born on August 9, 1946 in Nampa, Idaho. He was a resident of Lathrop for the past 16 years. He joins his father in heaven, Clyde Van Atta.

Mr. Van Atta is survived by his beloved wife Sandra Van Atta of 43 years. His mother is Bernice Van Atta of Albany, Oregon. He has two daughters, Rebecca Drinnon of Stockton and Beverly Van Atta of Red Wood City. He was blessed by four grandchildren, Chelsea Van Atta, Katrina Van Atta, Andrew Drinnon and Amber Lutz, and one very special great-granddaughter Kimberly Van Atta. In addition Gary has two surviving siblings, Elizabeth Bergsen of Chico and Rick Van Atta of Oregon.

Gary worked for Pilkington Glass Company (formerly known as LOF) for 13 years as a Maintenance Mechanic. Previously, Gary worked for Memorex in Santa Clara for 20 years also as a Maintenance Mechanic. He was a member of Calvary Community Church of Manteca where he was involved with their Bible study groups and Ministry of Ushering. Gary was an avid sports fan watching just about any sport on television. He enjoyed reading and spending quality time with his family. He loved to tease and joke with a loving heart. He was a true family man devoting his life to his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, an amazing father and a very special grandfather.

Mr. Van Atta’s services are being handled by P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home of Manteca. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 18, at 1:30 p.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery - Gustine, California.
