Geneva died peacefully in her sleep on January 6. Born to Phillip & Ame Mattson of Assaria, Kansas, she married Don Turner in 1948 at The Assaria Lutheran Church, where she was also Baptized and Confirmed. Don preceded her in death in 1994. Most of their married life was spent on the East Coast, moving to Discovery Bay in 1984 after retiring. Geneva worked for the government in Maryland, for a lawyer in New Jersey, and found her ‘niche’ in industrial sales, selling computer supplies out of Princeton, N.J. and magnetic media for Control Data Corp. out of Union, N.J. She was the first full time female representative in industrial sales in N.J. at that time, training other women from N.Y., and was very successful.
She enjoyed dancing, gymnastics, swimming and harmonizing in church choirs, quartets, and with her husband. She directed a junior choir, performed in plays including the senior showcase, modeled in fashion shows and sewed/designed clothing for her family, grandchildren and herself.
Geneva also managed the Ship’s Store at the Discovery
Bay Yacht Club, and
volunteered at the Dameron Hospital gift shop. She had her first golf lesson at age 66, and was hooked! She loved the challenge and socializing and the many friends she had. She moved to Stockton and joined the Brookside Country Club 18 Hole Ladies, and was proud of the many awards, tournaments and trophies she won. She moved to the Del Webb community in Manteca in June, 2010.
Geneva is survived by son Steve, daughter Sally and her son Brad, son Scott and his wife Katie and their children Chance and Amanda. Also her brother Dale and his wife JoAnn and many nieces and nephews. Geneva was well loved and will be missed by a great number of friends and family.
There will be a memorial service at the Del Webb Woodbridge Clubhouse, 1451 Americana St., Manteca, on January 27, at 3:00 p.m.
