George Bruno

George was born in Chicago on June 11, 1924 and passed away in Sacramento, on April 20, 2014. His family moved to California in 1939 and he went to Manteca High School. He was a talented musician. He found  his passion for music as a teenager playing clarinet and saxophone.
   He served in World War II in the U.S. Army. After the war he earned his Masters degree in teaching at University of the Pacific and retired after 30 years of teaching in Sacramento.
   He formed his own 15 piece band in the 1970’s and was still going in 2011. His band was featured on KXOA’s popular “Music of Your Life” dance series. He lead the orchestra for head liners at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee for more than 25 years. His band was also part of the California Big Bands Preservation Society.
   He is survived by his wife, Lupe, his children, Linda (Victor) Sanchez and Ron Bruno, and much loved grandson, Victor Jr. He is also survived by his sister Carole Doke of Chicago, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and in-laws who will greatly miss his easy-going and pleasant nature.
