Gerald W. Johannsen, a lifelong resident of Manteca, California, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Modesto on October 31, 1944, Gerald graduated from Manteca High School in 1963. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years where he was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a devoted member of both the American Legion and the VFW in Manteca. His strong work ethic led him to a 37-year career as a maintenance mechanic, first at Heinz and later retiring from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
Gerald shared 56 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dolores, creating a life filled with love, laughter, and deep family roots. He was a devoted father to Gerald W. Johannsen Jr. (Tenneill) and Teri Sanders (Killeen), and a proud grandfather to Gerald III, Kaileah, and Jilleen. He was joyfully anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild.
Gerald is survived by his sister, Jannette Fross (Monty), and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Ethel Johannsen twin brother, John and sister-in-law Martha, and his sister, Shirley Reynolds.
A man of many passions, Gerald found joy in fishing, camping, hunting, and wood carving. He had an easygoing nature, a sharp wit, and an infectious smile that made everyone feel at ease. Known for his jokes and willingness to lend a helping hand, he never met a stranger he didn't befriend. In his younger years, he was an active member of the Manteca Sportsman Club and the Manteca Horseman Club. Gerald will be remembered for his generous spirit, deep love for his family, and the happiness he brought to all who knew him.

Fry and Son Chapel, 290 N. Union Rd., Manteca, Ca. A Mass will be on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 11:00 AM held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 525 E. North St. Manteca, Ca. burial will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, 17871 S. Carrolton Rd., Escalon, Ca.
