Gertrude Roberta Purse (Trudy), 81, died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at her residence in Manteca. She was born on Dec. 15, 1927 in Akron, Summit, Ohio. She was a resident of Manteca for 23 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Robert Frank Purse. They were married for 48 years.
Trudy was a homemaker, typist or BF Goodrich in Ohio, statistical typist for Lockheed Aircraft Corp., preschool teacher for Sherning Child Development in San Jose. Family was very important to Trudy. She always remained close to her brothers and sister who lived in Ohio, attending many reunions. Trudy was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She was a baseball fan. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her G.G. She was known best for her wonderful dinners and one of a kind chocolate chip cookies. She loved all her dogs. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her. Trudy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She is survived by her children, Constance Lockwood and husband Thomas of Manteca, Clyde Purse and wife Debbie of Madison, SD, and Candace Ruelas and husband Ron of Tracy; siblings, Roderick Black and Lillian Fusselmann of Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Erik Lockwood and wife Kristen of Waterford, Troy Lockwood and wife Midiam of Manteca, Kirk Lockwood and wife Krystle of Manteca, Sean Lockwood and wife Michele of Manteca, Toby Purse and wife Terry of Ft. Myers, FL, Tamra Jones and husband Greg of West Linn, OR, Robert Purse of Sacramento, Felicity Nicols of Manteca, Chrissy Anderson and husband Scott of San Ramon, Vanessa Garcia of Tracy, Andrea Thompson and husband Kori of Sunnyvale, Travis Ruelas of Santa Clara; 20 great-grandchildren, Aubrey Lockwood, Shane Lockwood, Katelynn Lockwood, Rion Lockwood, Seth Lockwood, Trenton Lockwood, Brendan Lockwood, Emma Lockwood, Tyler Purse, Griffin Purse, Geneva Jones, Avery Jones, Jackie Hopkins, Nathan Anderson, Marissa Anderson, Alyssa Garcia, Miquelito Reyes, Francesca Thompson, Logan Thompson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, the late Russell Black and James Black.
P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home (290 N. Union Road.), is in charge of funeral arrangements. Funeral service will be Friday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 6060 Northland Road, Manteca. Final resting place will be Park View Cemetery, 3661 E.
