It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved Matriarch, Guadalupe Montalvo (she was 89) A loved wife, mother, gramma, Great-Gramma and Great, Great- Gramma, ’Lupe went to be with the Lord on Jan. 20, 2015.
   A story teller and eloquent writer, she often told stories of her early childhood that mimicked the pages of Steinbeck’’s “Grapes of Wrath.” Lupe was a lover of music and dancing and often would sing little songs around the house while doing chores or cooking. She put herself through school at age 50, always wanting to better her studies and as a migrant-aid for over 24 years she was revered by students and colleagues who enjoyed her kindness, friendship and gentle soul.
    She is preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years Apolonio  (Paul) Montalvo, her new born son, her son-in-law Rick Ashby, three of her sisters (Anita, Nellie and Mary) and other family and friends.
    A long time St. Anthony’s parishioner she has made countless contributions to the church and has supported many youth programs and organizations. Together with her husband, Apolonio, Lupe was instrumental in the formation of the Mexican Catholic Association.
   She is survived by her daughter, Maryann Ashby and her partner Edwin Rivera, sons Francisco, Paul and Samuel Phillipe Montalvo; grandchildren: Melanee Scarborough and her fiancée Joseph Lamberti, Matthew Ashby Scarborough and his wife Crystal, Monica Ashby and her partner Shaun Bartholomew, Richard Ashby, Alisha Burns, and Phil Montalvo Jr. great grandchildren Logan Holcomb; Kaylee, Shyloh and Blake Bartholomew, and Daisy Burns. In total there are 10 grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildren (a new one on the way) great, great - grand children, siblings, her loving caregivers Maria Edelmera Tovar and niece Yolanda Clark and many loving family members.
    P.L. Fry is honored to serve Lupe’s family. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 7p.m.  at P.L. Fry and Son, 290 North Union Road, Manteca. Mass will be Friday, January 30, 2015 at 1:30pm at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 505 East North Street, Manteca. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Escalon. For condolences to the family please visit our website at www.plfryandson.com.
