Helen Louise Slotnick, 90, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2009, in Manteca. She was born in Everett, WA to the late Frank and Veronica Wolven on January 31, 1919.

She is survived by her children Judy Beckius of Sonora, Susan Fields of Lathrop, and Marty Slotnick and wife Sheri of San Leandro; and grandchildren Maria DiSandro of Sonora, Michael DiSandro of Riverbank, Jack Fields and Amanda Fields, both of Lathrop, Martin Slotnick, Samantha Johnson, both of Hayward, Desiree Bento of Alameda, Matthew Slotnick and William Slotnick, both of San Leandro.

Before moving to Manteca in 2007 she lived in San Leandro since the mid 1960s. After moving to San Leandro Helen took a job as a retail clerk at the Lucky’s Supermarket. She worked at several of the Bay Area locations before retiring in 1984. Prior to moving to California, Helen and her husband owned and operated their own grocery store in Washington.

Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She cherished her family dearly and looked forward to family gatherings, especially Christmas. She was a strong-willed warm-hearted woman. She loved cooking, crocheting, and she especially enjoyed the senior trips to Reno, where she loved to try her luck at the slot machines. Another one of her great joys was playing bingo, weekly at the local parlors.

Helen will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Francis Wolven and Chuck Wolven. P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home is in care of all funeral arrangements. Following in Ms. Slotnick’s wishes, all services will be private.
