Henry G. Swenson
U.S. Army Veteran of WWII

Henry G. Swenson, 88, died on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Golden Haven Residential Care Facility in Stockton, CA. He had spent the last six plus years of his life at Golden Haven due to Alzheimer’s disease. He was born June 5, 1922 in Elkins, WV. He grew up in Albany, NY, and married Marion K. Lauer, his childhood sweetheart. In the early 1950’s, they moved to Sherwood Park, Rensselaer, NY, where they raised their three children. Their last move was in the mid 1980’s to Manteca. They faithfully attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Manteca. His wife, Marion K., passed away December 5, 2009; they had been married for over 67 years.

Henry G. served in the Army in World War II, 801st Tank Destroyer Battalion, New York National Guard, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. After the war and his active duty service, he continued to serve in the New York National Guard and retired as a Warrant Officer W01 after 30 years. Henry G. was employed by Gulf Oil on the Hudson River in Rensselaer, NY and retired after 37 years.

His brothers, Albert and Kenneth Swenson preceded him in death. Three children survive him, daughter Kathryn M. Swenson Meacham of Las Vegas, NV; sons, Henry G. Swenson Jr. of Manteca, CA, and Randy A. Swenson of Chandler, AZ. Survivors also include six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
