James M. Langston Jr., 81, entered into rest on April 30, 2010 in Modesto, California. He was born on September 2, 1928 in Arkansas. He was a Lathrop resident for over 50 years. Jim joins his wife Bernell Langston in heaven.

Mr. Langston is survived by his beloved children; David Langston and wife Nanette of Roseville, Janice Henricksen and husband Larry of Manteca, and James Langston and wife Lauren of Oregon. He has three surviving siblings; LaVida Matlock of Carmichael, Bob Langston of Foresthill, and Phyllis Burnett of Antelope. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren; Stephanie and husband Stephen Wunschel, Christopher Langston, Deanna Henricksen, Kyle Henricksen and wife Jennifer, Darin Langston, Nolan Cason, and Cara Cason. He was a very special great-grandfather to 5 great-grandchildren; Aubrey, Madison, Destani, Zoey, and Cohen.

Jim was a long-time respected business owner in Lathrop, California, owning Langston’s Mini Mart from 1960 to 1996. He was recognized at many events for his community support and services. He was a member of the Lathrop Chamber of Commerce where he was past president (1965-1966), Lathrop/ Manteca Rural Fire Department where he served as Director from 1966-1993 and also served a period as Chairman, and San Joaquin County EDA from 1967-1972. He was a proud Mason and was a member of the Scottish Rite Temple. When not working and serving his community, Jim enjoyed his time fishing, camping, woodworking, and completing crossword puzzles. He was a devoted husband to his wife Bernell for 60 years. He loved his children and was extremely generous to his family. He had an amazing personality, always laughing and living life to the fullest. Jim will be remembered for his feisty character and for loving his family unconditionally while supporting them in all that they did.

Mr. Langston’s services are being handled by P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10a.m. on May 14, 2010 at Parkview Cemetery in French Camp, CA.
