James Monroe Gass

James Monroe Gass, age 47, entered into rest on Saturday, May 21, in Manteca. He was born on May 27, 1963 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky to the late John and Viola Gass.  He was a resident of Manteca for 20 years.

James leaves behind his loving wife of 23 and a half years, Alexandra Gass; 4 children; Katherine Nelson and husband, Spencer of San Antonio, Texas, Alyssa Gass, Rachel Gass and Mitchell Gass, all of Manteca.  He is also survived by his brother, Ed Gass of  North Pole, Alaska, two sisters, Sandra Hildebrand of Manteca, and Darla Robbins, of Creedmore, North Carolina.

James was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as an Operations Specialist from 1982 to 1987.  After the military, he worked as an Air Traffic Controller for 22 years.

James was a loving husband and father.  He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served as a YM president and Elders Quorum president.  He was a member of the Bishopric and served on the High Council.  He enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening.  He loved to watch and coach soccer.  He loved horses and baseball.  He loved doing family history work.

James was a loving and faithful man.  He will be missed dearly.

Services for James M. Gass are under the direction of PL Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. A viewing is scheduled on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 10 a.m. followed by a Church service at 11a.m. both to be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 6060 Northland Road, Manteca.  Final resting place will be Park View Cemetery, 3661 E. French Camp Road, Manteca.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in James’ name to HDSA Northern California Chapter, 2860 Gateway Oaks Dr. #300, Sacramento, CA. 95833 or to the ALS Association Greater Sacramento Chapter, 2717 Cottage Way Ste. 117, Sacramento, CA. 95825.
