Jerome “Jerry” Bernard Schutte (Jerry) 84, entered into rest Saturday, March 9, 2013 in Manteca. He was born April 8, 1928 in Hastings, Nebraska to the late Bernard and Hilda Marie (Descher) Schutte. Jerry is preceded in death by his son Thomas Schutte.   

He leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years Helen Mae (Gowen) Schutte of Manteca. His children are; Richard Bernard Schutte of Bakersfield, John Wayne Schutte, Teresa Marie Schutte-Ponzo of New York, AnnMarie Schutte Hutson of Ion and Barbara Jean Schutte Sansom of Winton. He was blessed with seven grandchildren; Christine Marie Timmerneier, April Marie Ponzo-Hoffman, Thomas Ponzo, Ashley Reynolds, Samantha Christine Sansom, Steven Christopher Sansom and Christopher Dunken Sansom II. He has one surviving great grandson Brock Sansom.    

Jerry grew up in Nebraska and Illinois. He graduated from Dupo High School class of 1946.  While living on his family farm he learned blacksmithing, a trade that he held throughout his life time. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He moved to Spokane, Washington, in 1966 then went on to owning and operating his own printing shop that would then take him to working for The Tracy Defense Depot as an offset press operator. He then retired from Sharp Army Depot in Lathrop.  Jerry was a faithful member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Charter Knights of Columbus and a Charter member of The Manteca Moose Lodge.

P.L. Fry is honored to be serving the Schutte family. Visitation will held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at P.L. Fry and Son Funeral Home, 290 North Union Road, Manteca from 1  to 6 p.m. with a Rosary immediately following. A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. at P.L. Fry. He will be laid to rest at San Joaquin National Cemetery on a later day. For condolences to the family please visit our website at www.plfryandson.com
